Healthcare FAIL!

This my friends is what's wrong with our health care system:

DH goes into the family doctor for a routine blood test. He takes Flying Monkey part Duex with him as I 'm working. While there, he remarks to the doc that part Duex has a splinter that's pretty deep and we've had a hard time getting out.
She says "Hey, no problem, I have a medical student who can have a go at it."
Sweet my DH says.

Medical student comes in and after some screaming, ranting, raving and many, many tears, the splinter comes out (this took about 7 minutes, mostly because part Duex tried to escape twice). Everyone goes home.

Fast forward two weeks.

I get a bill from the doctor's office. This is not uncommon as they send a bill and I let the insurance company take care of it. When I open it here's what I find:

$195? $195? Seriously??? Honestly. $195. Call me naive but that just blew my mind. The removal of a friggen splinter cost $195 and not to mention that it was done by the damn medical student too.

Ridiculous.

Obviously we'll be doing our own surgery next time. Better yet, I'll just leave the damn thing in there for that kind of money.

Fix THAT Obama.

Sigh. Next time, use Elmer's Glue. Pour it on the splinter, let it dry, peel it off. You can probably color it with food coloring to make it gory looking if the kids don't want any part of this.
I was in a car accident a few years ago. I was just getting off work, so I was wearing a suit with a skirt. Since I had to go to the hopital, the EMT put a chuck pad on my legs in order to prevent a free peep show.

That piece of paper cost my insurance company $25. (I didn't even bleed on it or anything!)

For $25, I should have gotten a happy ending with that purchase.

that is a GREAT idea!
ITA with the happy ending. It was the least they could do. Were the EMT's hot at least?

If you had universal health care like we do in Canada, that splinter and the piece of paper would have been free. Yes, we pay for our healthcare with higher taxes, but we don't have to find insurance companies to cover us. No matter what, we have coverage. Universal health care is what Clinton and Obama WANT TO GIVE YOU.

Take it and run, it's a great deal!
